TURNINGPOINT CLOUD - Participant Lists

A "Participant List" is how all of the Turning Technologies applications are able to keep track of the students in a class to record their responses. In most cases, participant lists are imported from Canvas for easy access by instructors. However, instructors always have the ability to modify participant lists as needed based on the current circumstances.

For instance, if a student has not registered their clicker in Canvas, they will not show up with a Device ID when the participant list is imported from Canvas. But the instructor can edit the participant list with whatever Device ID the student brings to class, thus allowing the student to earn "clicker points" through his or her responses. Instructors can also assign Device IDs from students in the class to students in the Participant List.

Once a participant list has been imported, it can be reused in any Turning Technologies application (PowerPoint Polling, Anywhere Polling, and Self-Paced Polling), but there is one important caveat to remember:

IMPORTANT: Enrollment is often in flux at the beginning of the semester with students regularly adding and dropping from courses. As a result, participant lists can quickly become outdated due to the high frequency of change. For this reason, EdTech strongly recommends instructors update the participant lists at the beginning of each class for at least the first two weeks of the semester. Once enrollments have stabilized, instructors can reuse the same participant list for the remainder of the semester.

By default, Participant Lists are stored inside of the TurningPoint Cloud application and are not generally accessible as an external file. However, it is possible to download the Participant List from TurningPoint Cloud to a file (*.tplx) which can then be re-uploaded into TurningPoint Cloud.

IMPORTANT: Exporting a file requires you to include a password for extra security on the Participant List. However, if you forget the password, there is no way to retrieve the contents of the file.
