Distance Student Support

WHAT TO EXPECT

Opening Slide The beginning of the video will have an opening slide with music playing. This will continue until your professor is ready to start class.

Recording Class Live Class is recording as it is happening. The professor and on-campus students have microphones so you can hear their questions and conversations. If you are not hearing the on-campus student's questions, let the VCC know. If there is a break during class, a break time slide will appear along with music.

Chat During class, you can contact the VCC producer directly by using the chat feature within Zoom. You can also talk to the professor and other distance students using the chat. A producer will be monitoring the chat while class is live.

Downloading Videos If you would like to download class lectures, you will need to get permission from the professor. They are their intellectual property and it is up to them who can save it.

Interactive Live Stream Testing

IN THE "VISITOR CENTER" CHANNEL, YOU WILL FIND A "LIVE TEST" BUTTON THAT WILL TAKE YOU TO THE LIVE CLASS TEST.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU TEST YOUR AUDIO AND VIDEO WITH A PRODUCER BEFORE LEAVING THE MEETING. WE NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU CAN HEAR US, AND WE CAN HEAR YOU.

THERE ARE 3 PARTS TO THE CONNECTION TEST:

  1. Join by this link: Zoom Test Meeting
  2. Once you've entered the meeting you will have a pop-up concerning joining the audio. Your video will start automatically if you have a webcam connected.
  1. For VoIP: Click on "Join by Computer". Click on "Test Computer Audio" below the Green "Join Audio by Computer" button.  You should be taken through a mic/speaker test. You will not be heard while you are performing the audio test.

  2. For teleconference: Under "Join by Phone".  There will be a dialog box to choose which country you are calling from, then dial the number listed.  You will need to enter the Meeting ID followed by #, then the Participant ID followed by #.

If you plan to watch live classes using the 1-way secondary Live Stream, click here liveMST.

Also, please check to see if you can play the video in the vistor's center in MediaSpace.
